Torbitt and Castleman
Louisville, KY
Scope of Work:
Armstrong was called in to address a need in T & C’s cooking process. They wanted to see if they could increase throughput without increasing costs. Armstrong recommended that they could localize their hot water heating source close to the process by installing a direct fired gas water heater. This would take the current process cooking system off the steam loop which pleased T & C greatly because of their capacity problems.
Upgrade Projects:
- Armstrong provided an engineering analysis on how the steam to gas fired conversion could occur.
- Armstrong provided a complete payback analysis with a total turnkey solution.
- Armstrong provided a customized package around the Flo-Direct® Water Heater to minimize process interruption during the install time and reduce noise in the process area.
Project Cost:
The project value was $160,000.
Time of Installation:
The project was completed in May, 2004.
Benefits:
Torbitt & Castleman has seen their boiler load drop from 95% to 50% while their process received a steady flow of 200˚F water. Most importantly, their cook cycle time has been reduced by 4 minutes!
